I was offered an internship with the organization With Women with their doulas, as well as a position on their on-call doula program with Lutheran Hospital! So exciting and such a great opportunity for me and look forward to the experience. I also have completed everything required to apply for certification through CAPPA, so wish me luck! Hopefully soon I can officially say that I am a certified labor doula. Gosh, that has a good ring to it huh?
The birth field is full of unknowns and there are so many ways to be a part of it. So how do I know that I am picking the right path in that field? I guess we will find out soon-I start my biology classes in January and apply for the nursing program in May and hopefully the midwifery program in 1 year. Man, that's a lot of work but I know that it will be worth it in the end. But the lingering question is, when do Levi and I have a baby in that 3 year span????
How did I find myself in the doula profession?
-Well, I have always been fascinated with women, nutrition and birth. I met with a mentor of mine at school about a year ago and told her about what I wanted to do with my life and how much I wanted to help women. She recommended that I look into becoming a doula. After much research and attending birth conferences, I decided to go through the training. After aiding in the delivery of my nephew, Ezra, my passion for empowering women during their pregnancy and the delivery of their child was found. I realized that by being a doula, I can help women on a very personal level, and develop relationships that can last a lifetime.
